Arbeitskreis Nord-Ost

Welcome to

Arbeitskreis Nord-Ost

We help where help is needed.

Fast, dynamic and with an eye for the essentials.

Who we are

Arbeitskreis Nord-Ost is a young organization of international students from the Medical University of Varna, Bulgaria. We were founded with the aim of alleviating the suffering of Ukrainians caused by the Russian invasion by dedicating ourselves with full energy to the implementation of humanitarian relief actions for Ukrainians.

Since the beginning of the war, we have already been able to collect a six-figure sum in donations, undertake several relief transports, assist refugees in their search for and transit to a host country, and support various companies and organizations in the implementation of their own relief projects. However, our main project is to provide medical care to refugee Ukrainians in our hometown of Varna.

Our team consists of half a dozen medical students or doctors of different years. In addition, we can rely on a large number of volunteers at home and abroad

What we do

We see ourselves as a dynamic team that gets involved where it is needed. First and foremost, we work with the institutions that need our help. Be it hospitals in Ukraine in urgent need of medicines, aid projects looking for logistical support and local contacts for supplies, or refugees on their flight to Europe.

Nevertheless, we also have our own projects. These are currently based on three organizational pillars: Refugee assistance on the ground in Varna, Bulgaria (project "MedAid"), support of refugees in Ukraine and its neighboring countries with basic needed goods (project "CareFull") or the coordinated evacuation of fleeing Ukrainians (project "evacUA"). You can find more information about our projects below.

Project MedAid

In this project, we provide medical services to refugees who are denied basic medical care. Depending on the design of the specific circumstances, this includes diagnosis (for example, through free examinations) or therapy (for example, by assuming the cost of medication). At the moment, our project "MedAid Varna" provides medical care to about 500 patients per week. In the future, however, we would like to expand the project to other regions of the world.

Project evacUA

Not everyone who wants to flee has the resources to do so. The poor, elderly and chronically ill in particular are therefore often condemned to stay, while the less constrained leave the region/country. We help these "left behind" by providing the necessary resources and coordination. In doing so, we emphasize that the refugee is not left alone for a moment on their journey - by always having a responsible helper by their side either in us or in one of our trusted partner organizations.

Project CareFull

Our first project and still one of our most important pillars today. At "CareFull" we supply countries or regions devastated by war or other catastrophes with needed materials, be it clothes, food or medicine. In addition to our own supplies, we also help other aid projects to achieve their goals by providing organizational support or by finding trustworthy partners.

How we do it

Our work is based on three qualities: High commitment, large network, low production costs.

Our team consists of highly motivated young people whose hearts beat collectively for those displaced and injured by war. We are full of energy, dynamic and enthusiastic about any idea. Many of us have already gained experience, whether through involvement in other social and humanitarian projects or through practical work in medical institutions.

We are well networked. On the one hand, this is due to the previous commitment of our members mentioned above, and on the other hand, it is due to our desire to actively convince as many people as possible of our work. Thus, many contacts to other aid organizations, government agencies and companies have already been established, which have contributed to the steadily growing success of our campaign.

We are active in one of the most favorable countries in the EU. This helps us to get the most out of the donations we receive. Not only does this allow us to keep our overhead costs very low, but it also allows us to procure essential supplies such as medicines as well as ours at the lowest possible prices.

We need you!

Help us to do good - whether through financial, personnel or organizational support.

Every dollar counts

Our projects are exclusively financed by donations. This means that their scope and duration are always subject to the current donation situation. With a donation you can guarantee that we are permanently able to help the people who need it most.

The easiest way to make a donation is to click on the button in the lower right window. Further options can be found under the link directly below.

A helping hand

Our team consists of just under a dozen volunteer medical students and physicians. Without volunteers from other setting, we would be considerably limited in our range of services. So if you would like to actively support us in our work - whether locally or remotely - we would be happy to hear from you.

One hand washes the other

True to this motto, we welcome any request for cooperation - whether we can support you or you can support us. Just get in touch with a description of your request via the following link.
